According to Steven Hartley, a senior analyst at business telecoms consultant Ovum, the $1 billion (£565 million) marketing campaign will see 16 companies mark their HSPA (high-speed packet access) mobile broadband-ready devices.He explained in a statement that the move is essentially an awareness campaign that aims to increase the uptake of mobile broadband services on laptops and mobile internet devices."Yet, mobile-broadband uptake is already growing rapidly without it," Mr Hartley went on. "It could be argued that any promotion is better than nothing, but it looks a lot like the initiative is designed as a defensive move against WiMax branding."read more |
