| Copper broadband speeds 'improving' |
| Friday Nov 14, 2008 filed under : Telecoms News |
A company has announced a new service offering speeds of up to 40Mbps over existing wires.
The announcement comes just days after claims were made that copper cabling is limiting the progression of broadband in the UK.
Easynet Connect will trial their new service with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within a one kilometre radius of the companys thousand-odd exchanges.
By transmitting data at higher frequencies, the company is able to provide symmetrical connections of up to 40Mbps using the same wires by which it offers its 20Mpbs service.
Chris Stening, managing director of the company, said: "By continuing to push the boundaries of what copper networks can deliver, we are able to bring the very best internet connectivity to as many businesses as possible."
He added that copper-based networks are still able to deliver high-quality broadband connections to businesses with the "right technology and innovation".
Earlier this month, website broadband.co.uk attributed the recent dip in average connection speeds to the failure of copper-based networks to cope with increasing amounts of digital media being transmitted across the internet.
