Small businesses 'confused by broadband limits'
Tuesday Oct 28, 2008 filed under : Telecoms News

Nearly nine in ten (86 per cent) broadband users are still not clear about the limits imposed on their service, it has been revealed.

That is one of the findings of a new report by financial comparison site uSwitch.com, which also found that some 56 per cent of major broadband providers are willing to disconnect individuals or businesses using their connection "excessively".

As more businesses deploy bandwidth-heavy hosted business telecoms solutions, there is a growing danger that they will reach or exceed their broadband usage limits.

"Broadband companies should not be allowed to class their packages as unlimited if they are not," said Tim Wolfenden, head of communications at uSwitch.com.

"Providers are confusing consumers to the extent that broadband users do not even know if they are exceeding a user limit."

Earlier this month, analyst Screen Digest warned that rapidly rising internet traffic and increasing price competition could result in a number of internet service providers going out of business, something that would limit the amount of choice that businesses have when choosing a broadband supplier.
